About the Pharmacy Students Federation - Ghana and Drug Safety

The Pharmacy Students’ Federation –Ghana (PSF-Gh) is composed of pharmacy students from three associations, Ghana Pharmaceutical Students’ Association (GPSA) from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), University of Ghana, Legon (UGPSA) and Central University College, Ghanaian students studying Pharmacy abroad and Pharmacy graduates who have not been inducted into the pharmacy practice. The association was formed on the 29th September 2013, to serve as the mouth piece for pharmacy students and also to create a platform for students to contribute their quota to healthcare delivery in Ghana.

    Event background and history

The National Drug Safety and Health Awareness Campaign is an annual program carried out by the students of the federation. The Drug safety and Health awareness campaign over the last 41 years (1961 to 2002) focused on reaching out to only a selected rural community until recently in 2003 when the campaign targeted selected regions in Ghana.

Students from the various schools come together during the long vacation on the university calendar to undertake this social responsibility, to educate people about the rational use of drugs and healthy life style with our campaign being tailored towards antibiotic resistance and abuse of medications by the Ghanaian pubic . Each year, one region in Ghana is chosen as the target point. Over the years the federation has gone for drug safety campaigns with the recent National drug safety campaign 2015 held in the central region. It is against this background that the Pharmacy Students’ Federation has chosen the upper regions of Ghana to share with them the problems as well as document data for future use and for public records.
